Mercy Ships Medical Equipment Fund

Invest in the equipment necessary for life-transforming surgery

The Medical Equipment Fund supports the surgical instruments, diagnostic equipment, and infrastructure that surgery depends on. It's one of three Mercy Ships Canada charitable funds held with the Canadian National Christian Foundation (CNCF).

Why this fund exists

Life-changing surgery relies on skilled volunteer professionals, advanced medical equipment, and the infrastructure that brings safe surgical care to patients in underserved communities across Africa.

Through the Medical Equipment Fund, you can invest in the equipment, technology, and capital improvements that enable this work. Your investment strengthens surgical capacity, enhances patient care, and helps sustain Mercy Ships' impact for years to come.

What your gift supports

  • Surgical, diagnostic and supporting equipment — the tools care depends on
  • Medical infrastructure — the systems that keep the ships' hospitals running
  • Readiness for what's next — support that can be there as investment needs arise
Ophtalmic Surgery

Mamadou, age 7, received cataract surgery on board the Global Mercy. | Sierra Leone

Mamadou’s Story

Mamadou was born with cataracts in both eyes and was slowly going blind. He couldn't read, and he stumbled over things he couldn't see. When the Global Mercy docked in Freetown, a volunteer surgeon removed the cataracts in a two-hour operation, and Mamadou saw clearly for the first time. Surgery like his depends on specialized ophthalmic equipment — the kind this fund helps provide.

Why donors give through this fund

This fund offers a strategic way to support the equipment, technology, and infrastructure that sustain Mercy Ships' surgical healthcare mission.

By contributing, you can

  • Invest in the assets that make life-changing surgery possible
  • Help strengthen surgical capacity for years to come
  • Support future equipment and infrastructure investments
  • Maximize significant giving opportunities
  • Receive immediate charitable tax benefits
  • Donate cash, securities, and other eligible assets
  • Give directly or through an existing donor-advised fund

With the Medical Equipment Fund, that support is ready for equipment and infrastructure needs as they arise.

How the fund works

You can contribute to the Medical Equipment Fund directly — receiving your charitable receipt from CNCF when you give — or recommend a grant from a donor-advised fund you already hold. The fund is designed to support Mercy Ships Canada over time, so resources can be available as eligible equipment and infrastructure needs arise.
