Two ways to use a donor-advised fund with Mercy Ships Canada:
- Give directly to one of our three funds, held with the Canadian National Christian Foundation(opens in new tab) (CNCF). You don't need to already have a donor-advised fund — or a foundation of your own.
- Already have a donor-advised fund? Recommend a grant to any of the three options mentioned below.

Your generosity today helps shape healthier futures
A regular donation is a straightforward way to support Mercy Ships Canada. Giving through one of these funds adds another option: you can make the charitable gift when it suits your own financial and tax planning, and let the impact unfold over time. You receive your charitable receipt when you give. The charitable capital can then support Mercy Ships Canada as needs and opportunities arise — this year, or several years from now.
Example
A business owner sells their company and wants to make a significant charitable gift the same year. They can contribute to one of Mercy Ships Canada's funds, receive the charitable receipt that year, and let those charitable dollars support Mercy Ships over several years.
Giving this way can be a good fit if you:
- have had a significant income year or financial event
- are selling a business or another major asset
- want to donate appreciated securities or other non-cash assets
- want to make a larger commitment now but support Mercy Ships over several years

Musu’s Story
When Musu was six, a pot of boiling oil left her left arm scarred and folded shut. In her village in southern Sierra Leone, that kind of injury usually goes untreated. She had reconstructive surgery aboard the Global Mercy, followed by nine weeks of rehabilitation to stretch and grip again.
Musu is back in school now, and says she wants to become a nurse. Stories like hers show what becomes possible when surgical care is within reach.
Three pathways to lasting surgical healthcare impact
Programs Advancement Fund
The most flexible option. Supports surgical care, medical capacity building, the volunteer crew program, and other mission priorities, with resources directed where needs and opportunities are greatest.
Medical Equipment Fund
Supports medical equipment, diagnostics, surgical needs, and related infrastructure — including future needs that may not exist yet when a gift is made.
Legacy Fund
For donors and families who want their giving to have an impact over the long term — not only this year, but for years to come, and even beyond a single lifetime.
How the funds work
Mercy Ships Canada's three funds are held with the Canadian National Christian Foundation(opens in new tab) (CNCF), a public foundation that manages donor-advised funds. You can contribute to a fund directly and receive your charitable receipt from CNCF when you give. The charitable capital then supports Mercy Ships Canada over time, as eligible needs arise.
