Mercy Ships Canada Recruits its Next Executive Director
August 17, 2026
Every Season of Growth includes a Season of Change
For the past 12 years, Darryl Anderson has served Mercy Ships Canada as an Executive Director, Board member and National Advisory Council member. While the roles were different, all were dedicated to advancing the same mission.
In 2025, it was mutually agreed that as part of a succession plan, a search for his successor would be undertaken in 2026. The Board is now taking the next step in this long planned Executive Director succession process. This is an important step for Mercy Ships Canada, one that reflects the strength, stability, and progress that already exist throughout the organization.
"Every season of growth includes a season of change, and ours is here. The Board is now recruiting Mercy Ships Canada's next Executive Director, a direction that was set in 2025. As they undertake this important responsibility, I would be grateful if you would remember the Board as they seek wisdom and discernment.
What remains constant through a transition like this is the calling that brought us together: to serve with compassion, humility, and grace. I have every confidence in our staff team. Their capability, experience, character, and unwavering commitment will provide the leadership and stability needed to move the mission forward with confidence and impact."
- Darryl Anderson
The Board has retained Claude Martel of Morgan Philips, to lead the search for our next Executive Director. Claude's task is to identify a leader who can embrace our shared mission and guide Mercy Ships Canada into its next chapter, building on the foundation that is already in place, including the important work each of you contributes to each day.
As the search and selection process moves forward, our mission and executive leadership remain in place. Mercy Ships Canada will continue to advance its work through the expertise, commitment, and dedication of our staff and volunteers, through the faithful support of donors and partners, and in collaboration with our colleagues throughout Mercy Ships International.
"In the days ahead, I ask that we meet this moment as we have met previous seasons of change: together, with clear eyes and steady hands, in service to one another, to our volunteers, and to the donors who make our work possible.
My prayer remains the prayer of the Psalmist: Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands. May what we build in this season be marked by grace, hold together, and endure."
- Darryl Anderson
The Board recognizes that the strength of Mercy Ships Canada rests in a community of people who have chosen to invest their gifts, experience and energy in a mission we all believe in. Good leaders understand that mission accomplishment and the work we are privileged to be part of is larger than any one individual.
Through your work, relationships are built, generosity is nurtured, and lives are transformed. The impact of Mercy Ships Canada is not created by structures or processes alone, but by staff, volunteers and donors who faithfully carry the mission forward each day. The Board is deeply grateful for the part each of you play in our shared calling.
