Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana’s visit on the Global Mercy™ Highlighting the Power of Partnership in Advancing Health and Sustainable Development

Tema, Ghana, October 2 2026 – Mercy Ships Canada is proud to announce today that High Commissioner Myriam Montrat, Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, lead a delegation from the Canadian Embassy on a visit to the Global Mercy, the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, while the vessel is docked in Tema, Ghana.

That visit gave High Commissioner Montrat and embassy officials a firsthand look at the hospital ship’s surgical and healthcare capacity-building programs, which are delivered in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Health and local medical institutions to expand access to safe surgical care and strengthen the country’s health workforce.

During the visit, the delegation toured onboard surgical and hospital facilities, met with medical staff and Ghanaian healthcare partners, and learned more about Mercy Ships’ ongoing work to train local surgeons, nurses, and biomedical technicians as part of its long-term commitment to strengthening Ghana’s health system. The Canadian volunteers onboard also had the chance to sit down with the High Commissioner and share their stories.
