Mercy Ships Legacy Fund

Impact for generations

The Legacy Fund is for donors and families who want their giving to matter over the long term — beyond a single project, and beyond a single year. It's one of three Mercy Ships Canada charitable funds held with the Canadian National Christian Foundation (CNCF).

Why this fund exists

Let your support of Mercy Ships Canada do more than meet the needs of a single year. Your gift can keep mattering and to support surgical healthcare for decades to come.

The Legacy Fund is built on this long time horizon: a way to set giving in motion now that can go on supporting Mercy Ships Canada's mission well into the future. The kind of impact it can support often compounds — the clearest example being training, where one investment keeps producing results long after it's made.

What your gift supports

  • Impact that lasts — support for work whose benefits keep compounding, like training that stays in a country
  • Giving over time — a way to keep supporting the mission for years, not only once
  • A reflection of your values — giving you and your family can stand behind.

Fanirisoa et Vonjy

The clearest picture of long-term impact is what one investment can still be doing a decade later. Brothers Fanirisoa and Vonjy were both born with clubfoot, in Madagascar's central highlands. Ten years ago, Mercy Ships helped set up a clubfoot clinic there and trained local clinicians in the Ponseti method. Because of that, three-year-old Vonjy could be treated entirely by Malagasy professionals — no outside help needed. His older brother's more complex case became part of a newer round of mentoring, so local teams can treat harder cases too. Since that first clinic in 2015, more than 3,000 children in Madagascar have been treated for clubfoot.

Why donors give through this fund

This fund offers a strategic way to support the equipment, technology, and infrastructure that sustain Mercy Ships' surgical healthcare mission.

By contributing, you can

  • Support work whose benefits continue long after the original gift
  • Let the impact extend over many years, not a single gift
  • Involve your children or family in long-term philanthropy
  • Maximize significant giving opportunities
  • Receive immediate charitable tax benefits
  • Donate cash, securities, and other eligible assets
  • Give directly or through an existing donor-advised fund

With the Legacy Fund, that giving is shaped for the long term.

How the fund works

You can contribute to the Legacy Fund directly — receiving your charitable receipt from CNCF when you give — or recommend a grant from a donor-advised fund you already hold. The fund is designed to support Mercy Ships Canada over time, so resources can be available as eligible equipment and infrastructure needs arise.
