The pause in previous activities allowed the Mercy Ships&#8217; International Programs team to make some strategic decisions that would impact the future of the charity&#8217;s dental program. Mercy Ships&#8217; new strategy is to focus on education, training and advocacy efforts, direct surgical services, and the work within the hospital ecosystem on board the ships.<\/p>\n<p>The renewed Mercy Ships&#8217; dental program focused on prevention training, fillings, root canal treatment and cleanings, and extractions. The new dental model replicated a standard dental office environment, use an online dental computer program for charting, and have digital X-ray equipment at each chair.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ancienne structure du programme dentaire se trouvait \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur du navire et fonctionnait ind\u00e9pendamment de celui-ci. La nouvelle approche int\u00e8gre le programme dentaire dans l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me du navire et de l\u2019h\u00f4pital afin de s\u2019aligner pleinement sur la vision des services m\u00e9dicaux directs. Le nouveau programme dentaire dispose de deux fauteuils dentaires, l\u2019un \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital (clinique dentaire de l\u2019\u00e9quipage) et l\u2019autre sur le quai dans un cabinet dentaire mobile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Le cabinet de 20 pieds est d\u00e9plac\u00e9 de l'<em>Africa Mercy<\/em> vers le quai \u00e0 chaque fois le navire-h\u00f4pital effectue une mission.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mercyships.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/dental-hospitainer-project-gallery-1-PS1500.jpg\" alt=\"Dental Hospitainer project\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"833\" width=\"1500\" title=\"dental-hospitainer-project-gallery-1 PS1500\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tImpacts du projet\t<\/h2>\n\t<h4>Patients de l\u2019h\u00f4pital<\/h4>\n<p>Deux mille cinq cents patients sont admis pour une intervention chirurgicale \u00e0 bord du navire lors de chaque mission. La plupart des patients font partie des plus pauvres de leur communaut\u00e9 et n\u2019ont pas acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des soins dentaires. Outre les probl\u00e8mes pour lesquels les patients de l\u2019h\u00f4pital sont d\u00e9pist\u00e9s, de nombreuses personnes souffrent d\u2019inflammations et de douleurs dentaires. Lorsque les patients se trouvent \u00e0 bord du navire ou \u00e0 proximit\u00e9, l\u2019\u00e9quipe dentaire peut s\u2019occuper des cas les plus critiques sans interf\u00e9rer avec leur programme chirurgical.<\/p>\n<h4>Accompagnants des patients hospitalis\u00e9s<\/h4>\n<p>Family members are essential to the social fabric and safety net in the countries where Mercy Ships works in Africa&#8217;s low-resource settings. Most patients, including all children, accompany a caregiver on board the hospital ship. The patient&#8217;s caregivers also need dental care and preventative training. Previously, due to capacity limitations, Mercy Ships could not offer dental services to caregivers and was not able to help them. With the new dental chair in the hospitainer, part of the caregiver group can now be offered dental treatments.<\/p>\n<h4>\u00c9quipage de jour<\/h4>\n<p>La plupart des membres africains de l\u2019\u00e9quipage de jour qui soutiennent le travail du navire-h\u00f4pital tout en effectuant des missions sur le terrain n\u2019ont jamais consult\u00e9 de dentiste et nombre d\u2019entre eux ont aussi des probl\u00e8mes dentaires. L\u2019\u00e9quipe dentaire leur propose des soins et des mesures de pr\u00e9vention pour un d\u00e9but de vie bucco-dentaire propre et sain pendant leur s\u00e9jour sur le navire.
