Medical tools that create innovative solutions are imperative to saving both time and space. A YAG laser capsulotomy is a special laser treatment used to improve vision after cataract surgery. This laser can quickly and effectively restore vision following the capsulotomy. YAG laser capsulotomies for cataract patients is a preventative measure of reducing future clouding of the posterior lens capsule, the leading cause of cloudy vision after successful cataract surgery. The addition of the observation scope and beam splitter on the laser provides Education, Training and Advocacy (ETA) opportunities and enables physicians to teach in treatment techniques and procedures.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tProject Impacts\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>In Q2, 2022 the YAG laser was installed and tested on the\u00a0<em>Global Mercy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Mercy Ships cataract operations are performed using the latest methods and technology. Mercy Ships eye surgeons perform procedures to correct pterygium (growths on the cornea of the eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), eyelid deformities, and replace painful or disfiguring blind eyes with prostheses.
